If you’re into Japanese cars, then there are a few real “unicorns” that many people talk about but few have seen in the flesh. There’s the Mazda Cosmo. And the Skyline 2000 GT-R. And then there’s this – the almost untouchable Toyota 2000GT. Made famous from an appearance in the Bond film “You Only Live Twice,” the car signalled a new high water mark for the Japanese Automotive industry. In a sign of things to come, the world would soon realise just how good at making car the Japanese really were.
Purchased by a long-time MotoRRetro customer, we received it in late 2019. The car was then stripped of the old paint and the hard work to achieve a full restoration began. We utilised our metal shaping, MIG & TIG welding, welding courses, body restoration, car customising, body building, car customising, metal-shaping, panel beating, restoration and vehicle body works services to get this classic back to better than showroom condition.
While it was in remarkable good shape for its age, some panels were required to be remanufactured in house thanks to previous damage and corrosion. The better-than-new shell was then sent for paint at McCarroll’s Classic for their usual top shelf services. You can see the current status of the car in the image at the bottom of this page. And make sure you watch this space for shots of the finished car.
